THE MOST CITIZENS IN TURKEY? TURKSTAT POPULATION DATA EXPLAINED

According to TurkStat data, there are 1 million 300 thousand foreign populations. Istanbul ranks first with 450 thousand in the ranking of the provinces residing in Turkey, while Iraq ranks first with 281 thousand in the ranking of the country. Iraq is followed by Afghanistan and Germany in the rankings.
Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) has announced a map of Turkey’s foreign population by province. Accordingly, there are 1 million 333 410 foreign nationals who have obtained a residence permit or work permit in Turkey.

FOREIGN POPULATION BY COUNTRY OF CITIZENSHIP
According to the data announced by TurkStat, Iraq, Afghanistan and Germany take the first three places in the number of citizenship ranked by country in 2020.
According to 2019, the province with the highest number of foreign citizens, which has decreased by about 200 thousand, was Istanbul with 450 thousand 584.

PROVINCES INHABITED BY FOREIGN POPULATIONS
Istanbul ranks first in the ranking of provinces inhabited by foreign populations, followed by Ankara and Antalya. The cities where the least foreigners lived were Ardahan and Tunceli in east provinces of Turkey.
