THE GOVERNOR’S OFFICE ANNOUNCED: HOW MANY FOREIGNERS LIVE IN ISTANBUL?

The Istanbul Governor’s Office announced that 1 million 305 thousand 307 foreigners are legally residing in the city. A statement on May 04, 2022 was made from the Istanbul Governorate with data on foreigners residing in Istanbul.

The following statements were used in the written statement:

Our struggle against irregular migrants who do not have the right to legal stay in our city continues with the cooperation of all our institutions.

The Istanbul Provincial Directorate of Migration Administration processed 71,959 irregular migrants last year.

23 THOUSAND PEOPLE WERE DEPORTED FROM ISTANBUL

23,072 of these people were deported from Istanbul, while 39,525 were sent to repatriation centers in other provinces to be deported.

From January 01 – May 03, 2022; a total of 25,644 irregular migrants (1,933 foreigners) were processed, 11,936 of whom were Afghan nationals, 2,853 of whom were Pakistani nationals.) about which action was taken.

8,773 of these foreigners were deported from Istanbul to their countries, while 12,684 were sent to repatriation centers in other provinces for deportation procedures.

On the first day of Eid Al-Fitr, the deportation procedures of 240 irregular migrants identified by our law enforcement agencies were started and the deportation planning of 280 foreigners of Afghan nationality whose operations were completed was carried out by airliner.

STUDIES ARE CONTINUING EFFECTIVELY

Efforts to identify and deport irregular migrants are continuing effectively.

Every foreign national in our province is not an asylum seeker or a refugee, but comes to our country as a tourist and then returns to their country.

Especially with the arrival of the summer season, there is a heavy influx of tourists who come to see the historical, cultural and natural beauties of our city and take a vacation.

The number of tourists arriving to our city by sea and air increased by 112 percent compared to last year to 1,156,400 in March last year and reached 2,904,460 in the first 3 months of this year.

Among the foreigners who enter Istanbul, which is one of the cities hosting the most tourists in our country, there are citizens of Iran with a rate of 10.09 percent, Germany with a rate of 7.97 percent and the Russian Federation with a total of 7.82 percent.
